What is NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme, or NDIS, is a way for people living with a disability to access support across all Australian states and territories. The NDIS gives people choice and control over their support. It’s designed to help people with daily living tasks, improve their skills and build independence.

Check your eligibility

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) assesses eligibility for the NDIS based on age, residential status, and disability requirements. Click here to check your eligibility.

Meet with a consultant & develop your plan

We can help you prepare for your NDIS plan meeting with the NDIA, where you'll discuss your current services and needs and identify the support and services that will best help you achieve your goals.

Bring your action plan to life

The finalised plan will be put into action, by this we mean selecting the best provider(s) and support workers, managing your fund and implementing your ongoing plan, among many things.

How does the NDIS work?

If you’re eligible and your Access Request is approved, you’ll work with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to create your NDIS plan. Your plan will outline your individual goals and what funding has been allocated to help you achieve them. Once you have your NDIS plan, you’ll be able to start finding services and support. If you have ‘support coordination’ included in your plan, a Team can help you make the most of your NDIS plan. Already have your NDIS plan? Learn more about our NDIS Services Once you have your NDIS plan and know which supports you’re funded for, we’ll work with you to find the right services for your funding.

Accessing NDIS

As an NDIS participant, you have several important rights when it comes to the assessment process. Firstly, you have the right to receive clear and accurate information about the assessment process and what is expected of you. You also have the right to be actively involved in the assessment process, including being given the opportunity to provide relevant information about your disability and support needs. Additionally, any information you provide during the assessment must be taken into consideration when making decisions about your NDIS plan. Finally, if you are unhappy with the outcome of your assessment, you have the right to appeal decisions made during the process.

How do I Register for NDIS?

To register for NDIS, contact us by phone or through their website. The NDIS will then arrange an Access Request meeting to discuss your eligibility and support needs. If you are eligible, you will work with the NDIS to develop a personalised plan. The plan will be reviewed and updated as needed. Consider seeking support from a disability advocate or service provider.

How to manage NDIS Plan?

To manage your NDIS plan, it’s important to review and update it regularly, communicate with your support providers, and use the participant portal. Keep records of your interactions and report any issues or concerns to ensure that you’re getting the most out of the scheme.

GHS TOP NDIS FAQ'S

Who is Eligible for the NDIS?

Eligibility for the NDIS depends on a few different things such as:

  • Age: You need to be under 65 years at the time of your application
  • Residency: You need to be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen who holds a Protected Special Category Visa
  • Disability: You must have a permanent disability that significantly affects how you can communicate, move, care for yourself, or manage your life.
  • Early Intervention: You might be eligible if early intervention would substantially improve your functioning, or delay or decrease a decline in functioning, for you or your child.

Can I change my NDIS service provider if I am not happy?

Yes, you can! If you are not happy with the disability service provider, you can change to make sure you are getting the support you need.

How much funding will I get?

NDIS will determine how much funding you will receive for your plan. The NDIS looks at your goals and decides what reasonable and necessary support you would need to achieve them. They will take into account your age, stage of life, primary disability, functional impairment, living situation, and informal support.

What does the NDIS Fund Do?

With the NDIS, you will work out what reasonable and necessary support you need to live your life and achieve your goals. You’ll then receive funding to pay for these supports.

Reasonable and necessary support helps someone with a disability to

  • Pursue their goals, objectives, and aspirations
  • Increase their independence
  • Increase social and economic participation, and
  • Develop their capacity to actively take part in the community.

This support may include education, employment, community, social participation, independence, living arrangements, and health and well-being.

Can I be a Genesis customer if I am not eligible for NDIS support?

If you are not eligible for NDIS funding, you may still be able to access Aruma’s services. We do accept funding from other funding bodies on a case-by-case basis. Please give us a call at +61 400709822 to discuss your options.
